Objectives: This study was conducted to compare the differences of maternal-infant attachment and infant temperament according to the feeding methods.
Methods: This study used a descriptive research design. There were 52 mothers with breast-fed infants and 48 mothers with formula-fed infants. The data was gathered by structured questionnaires about the Maternal Attachment Inventory (MAI) and What My baby is Like (WBL).
Results: The mean score of MAI was not different between the two groups (p=0.087). But the mean score of WBL of breast-feeding group was significant higher than that of formula-feeding group (p£¼0.001). In addition, there was a significant positive correlation between the score of maternal-infant attachment and infant temperament (p=0.001).
Conclusion: Breast-feeding is an important factor in fostering positive temperament of the infant and should be encouraged.
